This Friday October 24th, Tortoise — the iconic ensemble that "reset the stage for what might fit within indie rock" (MOJO) — release Touch, the first new album from the groundbreaking group since 2016, via International Anthem and Nonesuch Records on LP, CD, and digital download (available on streaming services on November 11).

Touch is available in record stores worldwide this Friday October 24th, three weeks before the full album hits streaming platforms.
This Friday's physical-first release date follows a worldwide event last Saturday, when more than 150 independent record stores across the globe hosted listening events for Touch in their spaces - including this amazing human at White Wabbit Records in Taiwan, who made a paper mache mask version of the album cover!
Our goal with offering the physical album first (via independent record stores) is to reward and encourage the time-tested, tactilely invigorating, poetically consumerist, wholly humanity-affirming experience of actually buying records. Especially from your friendly neighborhood record store.

Tortoise has a series of special live shows planned through the end of the year, including a three-night weekend stand at NYC's Bowery Ballroom and two shows at Barbican Centre for EFG London Jazz Festival.
On November 11th they collaborate with the Chicago Philharmonic for the first time in a special concert at The Auditorium in Chicago, where they will perform Tortoise songs new and old with arrangements written by Sean O'Hagan (High Llamas), Nate Walcott (Bright Eyes), Paul Von Mertens (Brian Wilson), and the band's own Jeff Parker.

On Tuesday November 11th Tortoise collaborate with the Chicago Philharmonic for the first time in a special concert at The Auditorium in Chicago, where they will perform Tortoise songs new and old with arrangements written by Sean O'Hagan (High Llamas), Nate Walcott (Bright Eyes), Paul Von Mertens (Brian Wilson), and the band's own Jeff Parker.
“Some of the stuff we’re getting sent [by the arrangers], there’s new parts entirely,” Tortoise's Dan Bitney says in an artist profile and preview of the show published by Chicago Magazine. “It never really occurred to me that they’d be adding melodic elements or these abstract kind of stabs. I’m just in awe of the whole thing.” John Herndon of the band adds: "Other than high school, I’ve never performed with a large orchestra... I am excited to just be immersed in that sound world.”
