This Friday, October 9, Los Angeles based composer and synthesist Jeremiah Chiu releases his new album, Edge Conditions, on LP, CD, and digital download (the album will be available on streaming services October 27).
Special Release Weekend Events in Thirty Independent Record Stores Worldwide
Please join us at one of thirty record shops across the world on (or around) October 9, to celebrate the release of Jeremiah Chiuโs Edge Conditions.
Participating shops will be playing the album in full, and will have exclusive merch designed by Jeremiah, including a limited-edition T-shirt and a special postcard that folds into a 3D rendering of his synth rig. Even better, each postcard features a QR code leading to the MIDI files for one of the songs from Edge Conditions, with instructions for downloading and making your own version of the music.
Please see the list above (and on our website here) for full list of participating shops; and please check with those shops for event details, including exact dates and times, which vary.
If you can't make it to any of the shops who are participating hosting a special release event, but would still like to do the best/right thing and purchase Edge Conditions from an independent record store this weekend... we've also compiled a list on our website with every shop who has confirmed that they are carrying the album for release day. As always, we ask that you please consider supporting small business, in general, but more specifically the crucial cultural work being done at independent record stores.

Jeremiah Chiu - Edge Conditions
Following three electro-acoustic duo albums with violist Marta Sofia Honer (one in collaboration with late legend of minimalist music Ariel Kalma) and three heavily-fused trance-jazz LPs with his quintet SML (including Spontaneous Music Live, which was named โBest New Musicโ by Pitchfork just a couple months ago), Edge Conditions settles Jeremiah Chiu into a world of densely layered, tightly composed electronic music deviations in the vein of YMO spinoffs, Arthur Russell 12-inch mixes, Yasuaki Shimizu, classic Boards of Canada, Aphex Twin, and Art of Noise. Thereโs an emotional, energetic arc here โ a shining display of Chiuโs range and depth as both a composer and producer in which every facet of his collaborative work and sonic personality feels represented.
The album was mostly written and recorded during February and March of this year. Chiu operated both in isolation and with a select team of musical comrades, while also incorporating live collaborations, field recordings, and audio sketches going back years. Collaborators include Honer (viola), Booker Stardrum (drums), Ben Lumsdaine (drums and percussion), Patrick Shiroishi (saxophone and field recordings), Takako Minekawa (vocals and field recordings), Marquis Hill (trumpet), and Will Miller of Resavoir (EVI).
Edge Conditions is the first full-frame look at Chiu as a composer. Here, one of the most exciting artists in Los Angeles and a subtly groundbreaking new voice in contemporary music across the globe, finally steps fully into the spotlight.
Edge Conditions is out October 9, preorder here.
